European police cooperation and trafficking in human beings on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol

Published 23 March | On 26–27 March, the Riksdag will arrange the twelfth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG-Europol). During the meeting, MPs from the national parliaments of the EU member states and the European Parliament will meet to discuss the work of Europol, police cooperation in the EU and the fight against organised crime.

The JPSG meeting will be held within the framework of the Riksdag's part of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union – the parliamentary dimension. This meeting is one of the recurring conferences arranged every six months by the parliament of the country holding the Presidency and/or the European Parliament.

European police cooperation and the fight against trafficking in human beings

The agenda includes reports from Europol’s management on Europol's activities, addresses by Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and Minister for Justice Gunnar Strömmer, as well as a debate on the fight against trafficking in human beings. The meeting will be chaired by Adam Marttinen (Sweden Democrats) who is the Chair of the Riksdag Delegation to the JPSG and Juan Fernando López Aguilar, Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament.

The Riksdag to arrange eight conferences during the EU Presidency

Sweden is holding the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers in January–June 2023. Within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency, the Riksdag is arranging eight conferences and meetings during this period, in which members of the national parliaments of the EU member states and of the European Parliament participate and discuss various matters. The conferences are part of continuing cooperation between the parliaments, also known as interparliamentary cooperation in the EU.
