The green transition on the agenda when the Riksdag hosted interparliamentary conference on circular bioeconomy
Published 24 February | On 20 February, the Riksdag arranged an online conference on circular bioeconomy. During the conference, parliamentarians mainly from the national parliaments of the EU member states and from the European Parliament met not only to discuss challenges and difficulties posed by a circular bioeconomy but also above all to highlight good examples and innovations.

Chair of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture Emma Nohrén (Green Party) introducing the digital conference on circular bioeconomy.
The conference on circular bioeconomy was held within the framework of the Riksdag’s part of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers – the parliamentary dimension.
Challenges and solutions on the pathway to a circular bioeconomy
The agenda included the question of what role a circular bioeconomy is to play in the realisation of the European Green Deal and what is needed to enable circular business models to develop more easily. At the meeting, the next step in realising the EU’s Bioeconomy Strategy from 2018 was also discussed.
The conference was led by Emma Nohrén (Green Party), Chair of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture.
“It has been enormously inspiring to hear what the speakers and parliamentarians have had to say during the various sessions. I hope that the conference has raised new ideas about how we, as decision-makers, can contribute to the transition for the future being climate-neutral, how we can contribute to resilient ecosystems and to remaining within our planetary boundaries,” concluded Committee Chair Emma Nohrén.
The Riksdag to arrange eight conferences during the EU Presidency
Sweden is holding the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers in January–June 2023. Within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency, the Riksdag is arranging eight conferences and meetings during this period, in which members of the national parliaments of the EU member states and of the European Parliament participate and discuss various matters. The conferences are part of continuing cooperation between the parliaments, also known as interparliamentary cooperation in the EU.
