On 29– 30 January, the Riksdag hosted the meeting of the chairpersons of COSAC. This was one of the conferences held within the framework of the Riksdag’s part of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers – the parliamentary dimension.

The fight against organised crime in focus

The agenda of the conference included the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, which were presented by Christian Danielsson, State Secretary to the Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall. There was also discussion at the conference on what the EU can do jointly in the fight against cross-border organised crime. Among the invited speakers were Ylva Johansson, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and representatives from ECPAT and the Police.

The meeting was centred around the ongoing war

The Riksdag Committee on EU Affairs hosted the conference. The conference was led by Hans Wallmark (Moderate Party) who is the Chair of the Committee on EU Affairs and Matilda Ernkrans (Social Democratic Party), Deputy Chair of the Committee on EU Affairs.

“The meeting in Stockholm helped to manifest the EU's parliamentary dimension. The chosen theme, the fight against organised crime, was much appreciated and was seen as a response to concern on the part of citizens. But of course, our meeting was also very much affected by our awareness of Russia’s ongoing was against Ukraine,” says Hans Wallmark.
